وفقاً لصحيفة "لو جورنال دو ديمانش" الفرنسية، تعرض سيباستيان بورجيه، المؤسس المشارك والمدير التنفيذي للعمليات في The Sandbox، لمحاولة اختطاف هذا الأسبوع في مقر إقامته في فيلنوي، سين ومارن، فرنسا.
ذكر التقرير أن رجلاً تنكر في زي ساعي بريد وصل إلى الباب الأمامي، وبعد أن فتحت زوجة بورجيه الباب، اندفع خمسة ملثمين إلى الفناء وحاولوا سحبها قسراً إلى داخل مركبة. تدخل الجيران بعد سماع صرخاتها طلباً للمساعدة، مما دفع المشتبه بهم للفرار من الموقع. وقد تم القبض على اثنين من المشتبه بهم، بينما لا يزال أربعة آخرون طلقاء. وعثرت الشرطة بحوزة المقبوض عليهم على أسلحة مزيفة، وأربطة بلاستيكية، وأقنعة. وتشير التحقيقات الأولية للشرطة الفرنسية إلى أن الحادث مرتبط بالعملات المشفرة.
وأشار التقرير إلى أن فرنسا سجلت 41 حالة اختطاف أو محاولة اختطاف مرتبطة بالعملات المشفرة هذا العام، ليصل الإجمالي إلى 135 حالة منذ عام 2023، وهو ما يمثل نحو 80% من الحالات ذات الصلة في أوروبا.
