El Comité Asesor Independiente de Computación Cuántica y Blockchain de Coinbase ha publicado su primer documento de posición, afirmando que computadoras cuánticas suficientemente poderosas podrían ser capaces de romper los mecanismos de encriptación utilizados por las blockchains convencionales para proteger activos digitales en el futuro. Sin embargo, tales dispositivos no existen actualmente, y los activos encriptados permanecen seguros por ahora. La industria debería comenzar a prepararse para actualizaciones de resistencia cuántica a partir de ahora.
El documento señala que actualmente no hay riesgos sustanciales asociados con la minería de Bitcoin, funciones hash y registros históricos en la cadena; la principal vulnerabilidad radica en las firmas digitales en la capa de la billetera.
