El reportero de FOX Business, Darren Botelho, citó las estimaciones más recientes de una empresa de datos de detección de amenazas, afirmando que el gobierno iraní controla aproximadamente 7.7 mil millones de dólares en activos digitales. El Departamento del Tesoro de EE. UU. había congelado previamente cerca de 500 millones de dólares en criptoactivos relacionados con Irán, con 344 millones congelados apenas el mes pasado. El director ejecutivo de 250 Digital Asset Management declaró que, aunque las criptomonedas a menudo se consideran herramientas para evadir sanciones, en realidad ayudan a las agencias de cumplimiento de la ley a rastrear actividades.
