Según un informe de AXIOS que cita a funcionarios de EE. UU., Trump suspendió una controvertida ley marítima, la Ley Jones, durante la guerra con Irán, haciendo que el transporte de petróleo dentro de los Estados Unidos fuera más conveniente; ahora espera mantener este estatus.
La ley conocida como la Ley Jones, promulgada en 1920, aumentó los costos de envío entre los puertos de EE. UU. al requerir que los bienes fueran transportados por embarcaciones que ondearan la bandera de EE. UU.. En respuesta al aumento de los precios del combustible debido a la guerra con Irán, Trump emitió una exención de 60 días de la ley el 18 de marzo para agilizar el transporte de petróleo.
Según datos proporcionados por la Casa Blanca, desde entonces, 40 petroleros han podido transportar petróleo entre los puertos de EE. UU. desde California hasta Texas, Florida y Alaska, aumentando el tamaño real de la flota disponible en un 70%, ayudando así a reducir costos.
