Despite regulatory uncertainties, prediction market platforms continue to expand and raise funds

A pesar de las disputas en curso entre el gobierno federal de EE. UU. y varios gobiernos estatales sobre la autoridad regulatoria de los mercados de predicción, plataformas relacionadas como Kalshi, Polymarket, Robinhood y Coinbase siguen aumentando sus inversiones comerciales.

Los informes indican que 17 estados han cuestionado a las plataformas de mercados de predicción, argumentando algunos de ellos que los contratos de eventos deportivos entran esencialmente en la categoría de apuestas y deberían regularse a nivel estatal; mientras tanto, la Comisión de Comercio de Futuros de Productos Básicos (CFTC) de EE. UU. sostiene que los contratos de eventos entran en la categoría de derivados y deben ser regulados a nivel federal.

Al mismo tiempo, el Congreso de EE. UU. ha comenzado a intervenir. James Comer, presidente del Comité de Supervisión y Reforma Gubernamental de la Cámara de Representantes, ha solicitado a Kalshi y Polymarket que presenten documentos relacionados con los mecanismos de prevención de uso de información privilegiada.

A pesar de la incertidumbre en el entorno regulatorio, las valoraciones de las plataformas relacionadas siguen aumentando. La última ronda de financiación de Kalshi ha alcanzado una valoración de 22.000 millones de dólares, duplicando los 11.000 millones de diciembre del año pasado; se informa que la valoración de Polymarket asciende a 15.000 millones de dólares.

Ejecutivos de empresas como Flutter Entertainment, DraftKings y Robinhood han declarado que seguirán invirtiendo en el negocio de los mercados de predicción y creen que las disputas regulatorias relacionadas seguirán evolucionando en los próximos años.
