Prolonged heat and lack of precipitation have led to a decline in crop yields across Europe. In France, corn harvests have dropped by 35%, while the total damage to Italy's agricultural sector is estimated to exceed 3 billion euros. Vegetable producers in France report significant reductions in yields: 25% for zucchini, 35% for lettuce, 40% for peas, 60% for broccoli, and between 50% to 100% for artichokes. The French Ministry of Agriculture forecasts that corn production in 2026 will be around 9 million tons, which is 35% less than in 2025. High temperatures have also affected egg production, which has decreased by 1 million eggs per day. Milk production has fallen by 10-15%, and hay production for winter feed is 30% below the average from 1989 to 2018. The French government has allocated 145 million euros to assist farmers. In Italy, 60% of agricultural land has been affected by drought, with yields of corn, rice, and vegetables declining, and milk production reduced by 20%. In Spain, grain harvests in Castile and León have dropped by 35%, in Madrid by 49%, and in Andalusia by 24%. Winemakers predict a 20% decrease in wine production in 2026.
