The blockchain gaming market has not seen any eye-catching news for a long time.

In recent years, the once-popular Play-to-Earn model has gradually faded, with game tokens generally experiencing deep pullbacks. Many developers have shut down projects or shifted to other businesses. Even projects with well-known IPs and mature communities are finding it increasingly difficult to sustain operations.

However, an on-chain farming game called Yield Fields, which has not yet officially launched, recently created quite a buzz with its NFT sale. On October 13, Yield Fields issued 3,333 Yield Fields Deeds NFTs on the Robinhood Chain, which sold out in about 30 seconds after the public sale began. Based on the final public price, the issuance amount for this batch of NFTs was approximately $8.3 million.

Unlaunched Farming Game Raises Over $8 Million in 30 Seconds

Yield Fields was launched by blockchain game developer Skarly, who previously participated in Wolf Game and created Onchain Heroes. The new game is planned to be deployed on the Robinhood Chain and features a farming management gameplay, building a game economy around land, crops, resource production, and player trading.

The hot-selling Yield Fields Deeds NFTs are essentially land certificates within the game. The issuance adopted a Dutch auction format, originally planned to last 24 hours, with NFT prices gradually decreasing from 1 ETH to a minimum of 0.069 ETH. However, after the public sale began, all 3,333 NFTs were almost immediately sold out, with the final price settling at approximately 0.999688 ETH.

At this price, all NFTs correspond to about 3,332 ETH, which, based on the cryptocurrency price at the time, is approximately $8.3 million. However, since the actual settlement price for some whitelist participants is still unclear, it is more accurate to say that $8.3 million is merely an estimated amount based on the public transaction price.

The popularity of Yield Fields had actually shown signs earlier. From September 17 to 28, Skarly held an event called Deed Season through the previously developed Onchain Heroes game "Maze of Gains," distributing 850 whitelist spots for new game NFTs to participants. The event attracted 7,591 players, who completed a total of 226,904 game challenges.

According to Yield Fields' official disclosure, ordinary players do not need to hold Deeds to participate in planting and harvesting, while land NFT holders can build additional facilities and produce special resources. For example, landholders can produce fertilizers through Fert Decks and provide production materials to ordinary farm players in need.

The development team also designed a value accumulation mechanism linked to ETH. When ordinary players trade some game outputs, a portion of the funds will accumulate as underlying ETH support for the Deeds, allowing holders to reclaim corresponding value by burning the NFTs in the future. Based on this mechanism, the development team aims to transform land NFTs from mere collectibles into assets that participate in game resource supply and share economic activity value.

The speculative enthusiasm after the issuance quickly extended to the secondary market. According to OpenSea data, as of October 20, the total trading volume of Yield Field Deeds has reached approximately $2.1 million, with the 3,333 NFTs held by about 1,300 independent wallets. Additionally, the floor price of this NFT series has rebounded from the initial issuance price of 0.905 to 0.94 ETH to about 1.142 ETH (approximately $2,750), an increase of about 14.2% compared to the public sale settlement price.

Currently, Yield Fields has not officially launched, and market trading is still primarily based on expectations of future earnings and asset prices. In the crypto gaming market, this speculative enthusiasm is often closely related to the public chain ecosystem in which the project is situated. Yield Fields' choice to issue NFTs on the Robinhood Chain coincidentally hits the new round of market hotspots.

From Abstract to Robinhood, Blockchain Games Begin to Seek New Footing

For developer Skarly, this is not the first time he has bet on a popular ecosystem. In early 2025, his developed Onchain Heroes was one of the popular games in the Abstract ecosystem. Now, he has brought the new game to the Robinhood Chain, while the Abstract he once bet on is about to exit the historical stage.

Abstract is an Ethereum Layer 2 launched by Igloo, the parent company of Pudgy Penguins, focusing on on-chain applications for ordinary consumers. With well-known IPs, simplified wallet operations, and incentive mechanisms, it was once seen as an important competitor in the consumer-grade blockchain space.

Abstract did attract a number of developers, with its ecosystem accumulating over 144 applications and more than 400,000 users, and establishing partnerships with brands like Disney and Red Bull Racing. Onchain Heroes entered Abstract during this period and gained market attention through the ecosystem's popularity.

However, the scale of the ecosystem did not translate into sufficient commercial revenue. On October 6, Abstract's protocol developer Igloo announced that it would shut down on December 15. CEO Luca Netz revealed that the company had invested a significant amount of money into Abstract over the past 18 months, with cumulative losses reaching tens of millions of dollars. With user growth stagnating, insufficient on-chain liquidity, and limited development of the DeFi ecosystem, continuing to operate a public chain independently has become economically unfeasible.

The exit of Abstract has also forced game projects within the ecosystem to reselect their development direction.

For example, the pixel-style role-playing game Gigaverse has ended the operation of its old version and plans to deploy the new Gigaverse Online on the Robinhood Chain, with some of its original NFT assets planned to migrate to the Ethereum mainnet. Different projects have different migration paths; some game projects choose to deploy on ecosystems like Base. However, their common point is that development teams must first reassess the users, liquidity, and operational costs of the public chain.

The most popular "destination" Robinhood Chain, launched by brokerage Robinhood, is set to go live on the mainnet in July 2026, focusing on tokenized financial assets, DeFi, and on-chain trading. Compared to gaming public chains, the financial business and user channels behind Robinhood provide new imaginative space for applications built around asset trading, revenue expectations, and financial gameplay.

Yield Fields is a new project launched against this backdrop. It did not migrate directly from Abstract but was redeveloped by Skarly, who previously accumulated users in Abstract, and chose to issue NFTs on the Robinhood Chain.

Finding Opportunities by Following Ecosystem Trends

More than the NFT sales, what is more noteworthy about Yield Fields is how the development team utilizes the users accumulated from old games, the market attention of popular public chains, and the NFT issuance mechanism to complete the launch of the new project in a short time.

The experience of Yield Fields developer Skarly is a typical case. In early 2025, Onchain Heroes quickly became popular after launching on Abstract, with its Genesis Heroes NFT issued at 0.069 ETH, and the floor price once rose to about 0.64 ETH. However, as market enthusiasm waned, the floor price of this NFT series has dropped to about 0.07 ETH, shrinking nearly 90% from its historical high.

However, the value of Onchain Heroes is not only reflected in the assets of the old game. The development team continued to operate "Maze of Gains" this year and used this game to drive traffic to Yield Fields. The old game is responsible for maintaining the community and organizing player participation, while the new game obtains startup funds through NFT issuance, with the popular public chain providing a new market environment. The entire process forms a relatively lightweight project startup path.

This is indeed a practical advantage for small blockchain game developers. Compared to traditional game companies that require long-term investment in research and development to maintain large game worlds, small teams have relatively limited sunk costs and can adjust product directions and deploy networks more quickly.

When the original ecosystem loses growth momentum, they can choose new public chains, reorganize communities, and then obtain income through NFT issuance or other on-chain activities.

For these developers, public chains are not just the technical infrastructure that supports game operations. They also provide user entry points, trading markets, liquidity, and community culture.

Choosing an ecosystem that is at the center of market attention may reach crypto users willing to pay faster than simply adding game features.

However, this also means that the success or failure of the project largely depends on the enthusiasm of the external ecosystem. Thus, the cycle of short-term speculation ultimately evolves into a game of constantly seeking the next hotspot.
