Poland Will Not Lift Ban on Importing Ukrainian Agricultural Products
Poland is not considering lifting its unilateral ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products. Authorities claim that the restrictions are necessary to protect the Polish agricultural market and consumers. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Adam Novak stated that there are no grounds for lifting the restrictions, as they are important for safeguarding the domestic market. Ukraine has received liberalized access to the EU market without meeting all the requirements that Polish farmers must comply with. During the visit of EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, the Polish side emphasized the need to maintain protective mechanisms. Novak noted that lifting the trade liberalization mechanism is disadvantageous for Poland and is the only way to stabilize the agricultural market. In 2023, Poland and several EU countries imposed restrictions on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products to protect their farmers. In 2026, Ukraine increased its agricultural exports by 10.8%, shipping 5.5 million tons of goods.
