Raoul Pal Claims Bitcoin Outperforms Gold as Hedge Against Debasement

Raoul Pal, co-founder of Real Vision, asserts that Bitcoin (BTC) is a superior long-term hedge against currency debasement compared to gold. He argues that Bitcoin's earlier adoption stage provides greater growth potential than gold. Pal made these comments during a September interview on the Wolf Financial Show, where he discussed how debasement erodes savings and wages. He describes debasement as the gradual loss of purchasing power due to central banks expanding the money supply, estimating a global reduction in fiat currency value by approximately 8% annually, while wages typically grow around 3%. This disparity contributes to the increasing unaffordability of homes and other scarce assets for average earners. Bitcoin was recently trading near 75900美元, down about 2% in the past day. Pal characterizes gold as base money that cannot compound in value beyond economic growth, while Bitcoin serves as digital gold with similar scarcity but an earlier adoption curve. He notes that only crypto and technology stocks have consistently outpaced the debasement rate, with the Nasdaq showing a roughly 19% annual return over 15 years, while crypto has compounded between 45% and 110% annually. Traditional assets like gold and real estate tend to only track the debasement rate. Pal's views reflect a growing trend among macro investors linking Bitcoin's price movements to gold as the debasement trade gains traction. The sustainability of Bitcoin's adoption curve remains uncertain, and gold's renewed strength may influence investor preferences through 2026.
