CoinWorld reports:
Pi Network will adjust the fee structure for Pi App Studio starting August 24, 2026. The new plan will no longer use a uniform low rate; the costs for creating and editing applications will be more aligned with the actual consumption of AI services, and subsidies will be more directed towards applications with real users.
Previously, developers were required to pay 0.25 PI to create an application and another 0.25 PI for subsequent edits, with a significant portion of the AI service costs covered by Pi Network. After the implementation of the new mechanism, fees will vary based on the complexity of the application, and the platform stated that there would be no additional charges beyond actual costs.
Subsidies to Follow Real Usage
The core of this adjustment is that subsidies will no longer be evenly distributed among all developers. Pi Network plans to determine whether to continue providing subsidy rates based on whether the application attracts independent users beyond the developer themselves.
The platform stated that relevant qualifications will be reviewed regularly. Even if developers do not receive subsidies initially, they will still have the opportunity to re-enter the subsidy range if the usage of their applications increases later. This means developers need to pay more attention to product usability, user feedback, and actual demand.
Developers Can Optimize Applications Before August 24
Before the new regulations take effect, existing developers still have time to improve their application performance to retain or gain subsidy eligibility. The article mentions preparation directions including:
Pi Network also stated that the early universal subsidies helped encourage experimentation and assisted the platform in understanding the usage of App Studio. However, if costs are borne for applications lacking users in the long term, the efficiency of resource investment will decline.
Short-term Impact on PI Price Remains Unclear
This fee adjustment is seen as a step towards Pi Network's restructuring of its application ecosystem, aiming to concentrate resources on products with a stronger user base. If application quality and activity improve as a result, the overall practicality of the platform may also increase.
However, regarding the short-term price of the PI token, there is currently no clear boost in sight. The original text mentions that the recent price of PI is approximately $0.086, having dropped about 5% over the past week. The market is now more focused on whether this adjustment can lead to sustained user growth.
