Data released on Aug. 14 showed July retail sales falling month over month, one of the larger declines in the past year, with core sales also weakening. Combined with softer consumer confidence, doubts about consumer resilience emerged. The major indexes closed modestly lower on Friday, though the S&P 500 and Nasdaq still posted a third consecutive weekly gain.

2)Broadcom Retreats as Market Focuses on AI Financing Debt Scale
