Apple has officially announced plans to open an advanced manufacturing center in Houston, where it will produce some Mac Mini units and assemble AI servers. The event on the 13th was attended by CEO Tim Cook, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and Senator Ted Cruz, among others. The AMC will serve as a facility for producing and shipping Apple’s AI servers, with Mac Mini production expected to begin later this year. Tim Cook revealed that the company has invested hundreds of millions of dollars over the past nine months. Apple stated that the AI servers will be used in data centers across the United States. Secretary Raimondo mentioned that the opening of this facility is a significant step in fulfilling Apple’s commitment to returning manufacturing to the U.S. Apple is pursuing a strategy to expand manufacturing in the U.S. starting in 2025, with a planned investment of $500 billion. The Houston server plant is a key component of this plan, and Apple has reported securing over 20 billion U.S.-made chips from 24 factories across 12 states. Tim Cook's transition is also related to this event, as he will move to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board starting September 1. Market reactions have been mixed, and the impact of Apple’s U.S. manufacturing expansion on product prices or supply chains will depend on future production volumes.
