The Public Security Secretariat of the state of Puebla dismantled a Bitcoin mining facility with approximately 300 machines, which was clandestinely connected to a dam of a federal hydroelectric complex. During the operation, transformers, medium-voltage terminals, and satellite internet antennas were detected. The seized infrastructure and objects are under the custody of the competent authority. The investigation focuses on the crime of electricity theft and will extend to nearby municipalities. The Federal Electricity Commission is collaborating with the Attorney General's Office and the Navy Secretariat in the inquiries. Additionally, it is being analyzed whether the generated crypto assets were used to give the appearance of legality to illicit resources. This operation is part of a regional context of surveillance over unauthorized mining, similar to actions in other countries like Venezuela, where equipment has been seized following failures in the electrical grid.
