BitGo Begins Institutional Support for Stacks-based sBTC
BitGo has started institutional support for sBTC, a Bitcoin-linked asset based on Stacks. Institutional clients can utilize sBTC custody and conversion on the BitGo infrastructure, along with compatibility features for assets within the Stacks ecosystem. BitGo announced the launch of institutional support for sBTC on its blog on April 22, 2025. sBTC is a 1:1 Bitcoin-collateralized asset issued on the Stacks network, designed for use in DeFi, lending, and decentralized applications. BitGo explained that this support aligns with the demand for programmable financial assets among institutions. BitGo has participated as one of the early signers of the Stacks network, and this support will provide custody for both BTC and sBTC, SIP-010 support, and asset compatibility within the Stacks ecosystem. It is important for institutional clients to have custody and trading infrastructure together. However, sBTC is not an asset like physical Bitcoin, and its security structure and usage methods differ. Whether BitGo's support will lead to actual institutional adoption or market liquidity will need to be confirmed with additional indicators.
