Claude Achieves 80% Code Merge, 8-Fold Increase in Code Merging per Engineer

As of May 2026, Anthropic's Claude has reportedly written over 80% of the merged production code. This figure represents the proportion of production code attributed to Claude, rather than the total code generation. Anthropic stated that the amount of code merged per engineer in the second quarter of 2026 has increased eightfold compared to the average from 2021 to 2025. The success rate of Claude reached 76% in May 2026, a 50 percentage point increase from six months prior. Anthropic explained that AI has accelerated the development speed by taking on the tasks of writing and reviewing the code necessary for AI development, but emphasized that final approval from humans is still required. Control costs are also rising, and changes in security review and access management methods are needed. The issue of 'approval fatigue,' where users become less attentive due to repeated approval requests, was also highlighted. The proportion of pull requests (PRs) with substantial review comments in the code review system has increased to 54%, but final approval remains a human decision. The response rate indicating that the speed of AI tool adoption is faster than policy formulation reached 80%, while 92% acknowledged the governance challenges of AI-generated code.
