Cloudflare has released its Q2 2026 Global Internet Outage Review, highlighting natural disasters, government interventions, and infrastructure failures as the main causes. In mid-April, Super Typhoon Sinlaku caused widespread power outages in Guam, leading to an 80% drop in internet traffic. Iran restored connectivity on May 26 after experiencing 88 days of nationwide internet shutdown, with HTTP traffic rebounding to 90% of pre-outage levels before stabilizing at around 59%. On May 5, Germany's .de domain registry DENIC generated erroneous signatures during a DNSSEC key rollover, resulting in a temporary inaccessibility of many .de websites. On June 21, Saint Lucia experienced a 60% drop in national traffic due to a fiber cut. During the same period, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Venezuela, Tanzania faced widespread power outages, and the governments of Iraq and Sudan implemented multiple internet shutdowns during exams. Additionally, drone attacks stemming from conflicts in the Middle East have caused physical damage to the AWS data center in the UAE's me-central-1 region, continuing to affect local cloud service operations.
