The Colombian government has presented a bill that establishes a special tax normalization regime for undeclared cryptocurrencies, applying a unique 5% tax on their market value in exchange for voluntary reporting to the National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN). The initiative, known as Bill 477 of 2026, aims to identify public addresses and protocols that have not been previously reported. If approved, the deadline for completing the process would be June 30, 2027. The proposal aims to incorporate omitted assets into tax declarations and obtain verifiable information about self-custody accounts and positions in protocols used by taxpayers. The 5% will be applied to the market value of the asset, not just on gains. The measure requires full payment of the tax and the provision of complete and truthful information, and it does not protect undisclosed assets or legalize resources of illicit origin. This project complements the regulations initiated with Resolution 000240 of the DIAN in January 2026.
