Crypto Investor Loses $2.1 Million After Clicking Link from ChatGPT

Crypto investor Alex lost approximately $2.1 million after clicking a link suggested by ChatGPT and connecting his wallet to a phishing site. He inquired about exchanging the token sFLR for WFLR, and the response included a link to a fake service. Alex connected his wallet and confirmed a transaction with unlimited approval, after which the attackers withdrew about 1.9 million FXRP. The user's mistake led to an irreversible loss of funds after confirmation. Following the theft, Alex posted transaction details and wallet addresses on social media X, seeking help in tracking the stolen funds. Analyst VAL noticed a transfer of 50 Ethereum to Tornado Cash from the wallet that received 120,000 DAI. The suspicious wallet had been active since April, receiving various amounts of FLR and converting them into DAI and Ethereum. This case highlights the danger of trusting links without verification, even for experienced investors. A similar scheme previously resulted in a loss of $550,000 for clients of Hyperliquid.
