Dropbox plans to acquire cloud technology company Tigris Data for $350 million, with the deal expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, potentially becoming its largest acquisition. The acquisition aims to enhance AI infrastructure capabilities to support the development of the DBX Agent Cloud storage platform. This platform will provide independent object storage services compatible with Amazon S3 tools, with plans to add file system functionalities in the future to support AI agents in managing files. Dropbox will also upgrade the AI features of its core products, allowing users to process files through AI and connect with third-party tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Muse. The company stated that there are currently no plans for layoffs due to the acquisition, having already reduced its global workforce by about 9% last year. Tigris Data was founded by engineers involved in developing Uber's storage infrastructure and completed a $25 million Series A funding round last year.
