ENS Proposes Activation of ENSv2, .eth New Registrations Paused for Hours
The founder of the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), Nick Johnson, submitted an executable draft proposing that the decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) approve the activation of ENSv2 on the Ethereum mainnet. Once the upgrade is approved, the original ENS registrar will pause new domain registrations, although existing domain holders can still renew their domains. ENSv2 will introduce a more flexible domain management and permission structure. After the synchronization of domain records is completed, new .eth registrations will migrate to the upgraded system, and new registrations on both systems may be paused for several hours during the transition period; existing holders do not need to migrate, and their domains will continue to function normally. ENS Labs plans to transfer the remaining management rights of the upgrade contract to the DAO. This proposal is currently still in draft form and needs to enter the on-chain DAO voting process. According to governance rules, executable proposals must receive at least 1 million ENS votes and achieve majority support within a 7-day voting period, and after approval, there will be a lock period of at least two days, with the voting date yet to be announced.
