Ethereum Releases EIP-8141 Proposal to Enhance Payload Propagation Speed
The Ethereum community has released the EIP-8141 proposal, aimed at achieving faster payload propagation through message segmentation. The proposal suggests streaming each segment across the network rather than using a store-and-forward mechanism at each hop. The Merkle tree commitment included in the proposal is the only required consensus change, with each segment being verified against this commitment before forwarding. Through segmentation and batch publishing, the median delivery time can be reduced from 5 seconds for the entire payload to under 1 second, even without using data center nodes in baseline home builder simulations.
