Simon Grimm, editor of Works in Progress, warns that Europe has lagged behind the U.S. for the past 30 years, and with the development of AI, this gap may widen sharply. He points out that Europe has not taken the right path in enhancing its AI capabilities, and the situation is likely to worsen further. Grimm states that the world is experiencing one of the highest infrastructure expansion costs in history, yet Europe has seen almost no significant data center projects come to fruition, which is puzzling. AI companies are urgently seeking locations to build data centers, but there are few projects advancing in Europe. He believes the problem mainly lies on the supply side, as conditions in Europe are relatively poorer, making related construction difficult.
