Google in Talks for Over $1.5 Billion Deal with Mechanize to Acquire Talent and Technology Licensing
Google is in deep negotiations with San Francisco-based AI programming startup Mechanize to finalize a deal valued at over $1.5 billion. The transaction will involve Google bringing in some of Mechanize's talent and obtaining its technology through a non-exclusive licensing agreement. The talent Google aims to acquire will focus on model evaluation and development. The AI programming sector has become one of the most important and profitable areas for AI applications today, and through such deals, Google can directly accelerate its AI coding capabilities. Over the past two years, Google has structured several acquisitions as hybrid deals combining "talent acquisition + technology licensing," partly to avoid the antitrust scrutiny that could arise from direct full acquisitions. The negotiation model with Mechanize, which involves hiring some employees and obtaining technology through licensing rather than a full acquisition, continues the creative path taken by large tech companies in Silicon Valley to secure core technologies and talent in the AI race.
