HTX rotates wallets to evade UK sanctions screening

HTX has been rotating wallets across four blockchains to avoid sanctions screening since being sanctioned by UK authorities in May. TRM Labs reported that HTX regularly cycles hot wallets and funding addresses on TRON, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and Solana. The exchange retires addresses every few hours, rendering static address-based screening ineffective. In May 2026, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office sanctioned Huobi Global S.A., now HTX, for allegedly facilitating Russian sanctions evasion. Despite the sanctions, HTX remains operational, with its onchain footprint described as 'a continuous moving target.' TRM Labs noted that HTX's frequent wallet changes challenge traditional screening tools. The firm advocates for behavior-based detection to link new wallets to sanctioned entities based on onchain activity. HTX has stated that regulatory compliance is a top priority and that it monitors and adheres to regulations in all jurisdictions, including the UK. This development follows ongoing regulatory pressure, with the UK's Financial Conduct Authority initiating legal proceedings against HTX for unlawful financial promotions.
