The Johor police in Malaysia conducted a raid on four rented buildings that bypassed electricity meters for Bitcoin (BTC) mining from the 22nd to the 23rd, seizing 71 mining machines and arresting three individuals. The Johor police's Criminal Investigation Department (D4) carried out the operation named 'Ops Letrik' in collaboration with the state-owned electricity company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). The seized equipment included four computers, five routers, and two vehicles, with the three arrested individuals being held for investigation until the 26th. The locations raided included three houses in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru Utara, and Kulai, which were rented for 5,000 to 6,000 ringgit per month. They had connected wiring directly without going through TNB's electricity meters to operate mining 24 hours a day, resulting in a loss of 67,502.30 ringgit, approximately 17,000 USD, for TNB. The police are investigating whether there are any backers who funded or provided the locations for these operations. This case falls under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990, and the Johor police had previously raided 16 locations for illegal mining from January 2025 to June 2026, seizing 158 machines.
