Memecoin market cap falls to 13.27 billion as institutional interest grows

The combined market capitalization of DOGE and shiba inu (SHIB) has dropped to 13.27 billion, the lowest in three years, down about 2% this month. In contrast, bitcoin's market cap has risen to 1.30 trillion, with a 10% increase in value. The ratio of DOGE and SHIB's market cap to bitcoin's is now just 1.02%, the lowest on record, compared to 7% at the peak of memecoin mania in 2021. This shift indicates a broader change in capital flow within the crypto market, driven by the upcoming U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs in 2024, attracting institutional investors focused on bitcoin rather than meme tokens. Additionally, capital is moving towards sectors linked to traditional finance, such as real-world assets. The era of speculative memecoins appears to be over, as higher global interest rates further consolidate capital into bitcoin and major market sectors. Short-term market trends show traders expect bitcoin prices to rise to at least 72,000.
