Monero Launches New Stressnet Version with Scheduled Fork

Monero released on September 25, 2026, a new version of its stress test network, incompatible with previous beta versions, to advance the integration of FCMP++ and Carrot. Version 3.0 prepares for a scheduled fork on October 5, at block 3,102,800. This update includes support for hot-cold wallets, improvements to the transaction relay protocol, compatibility with RandomX v2, and fixes from version 2. Participants from previous tests will need to synchronize from scratch, as they will not be able to reuse the monerod database or their wallet cache. FCMP++ replaces ring signatures with a system that allows demonstrating that an output can be spent without revealing which one it is, significantly expanding the set of possible outputs. The Carrot protocol introduces modifications to the address system and security functions while maintaining compatibility with existing addresses. However, the tests have limitations, with an anonymity set of only a few dozen participants, which does not offer the same privacy conditions as a network with greater participation. The October fork will allow evaluating the behavior of these changes under more demanding conditions, being relevant to identify issues to correct before a future implementation on the main network.
