OpenAI has recently seen the departure of key executives, raising concerns in the market about its governance stability during the IPO preparation process. Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser and Brad Lightcap, who was responsible for special projects, have both announced their departures, while Fidji Simo, head of business development, has also exited the core management team. This series of changes comes as the company's valuation continues to rise, preparing for a potential public listing. OpenAI is seeking to support its approximately $852 billion valuation and secretly submitted IPO-related documents in June this year. While investors are focused on the executive changes, they are also assessing the pressure from competitors like Google and Anthropic, as well as the impact of decreasing costs of open-source models on its business model. Analysts point out that the loss of core management before the IPO could be a risk signal for investors. Kevin McCormick, founder of AI startup SignAudit.AI, stated that executives leaving before an IPO is a "major warning sign," especially as some may forgo substantial potential gains. This is not the first time OpenAI has experienced management turmoil; in 2023, CEO Sam Altman was ousted by the board but was reinstated under pressure from employees and investors. The recent string of executive departures has once again raised external concerns about the company's governance, leadership stability, and IPO readiness.
