  • The financial participation was led by BitMine and SharpLink.

Ethereum Institutional announced today, July 29, 2026, the closure of its initial funding round after adding more than 100 participants. The capital injection aims to consolidate an infrastructure that accelerates the adoption of the Ethereum network by the global corporate sector.

This funding round was led by BitMine and SharpLink, companies that head the corporate treasuries of ether (ETH) ---the cryptocurrency of Ethereum--- along with the network's co-founders, Joseph Lubin and Mihai Alisie. The total amount raised was not disclosed by the organizers in their statement.

In parallel, the financial call included custody firms, decentralized finance, and infrastructure. Notable investors include Aave, Arbitrum, Circle, Consensys, DefiLlama, stakeholders from the EigenLayer ecosystem, Flashbots, Ledger, Lido, Linea, Optimism, Uniswap Labs, zkSync, 21Shares, Anchorage Digital, Bitwise, Chainlink, Fireblocks, Galaxy, MetaMask, Ondo, Robinhood, and Securitize.

With this financial backing, the organization, which claims to be independent and non-profit, launched on July 1, 2026, seeks to act as a "neutral institutional front door". Its stated purpose is to promote the mass use of Ethereum and its layer 2 (L2) networks.

"The closure of our initial funding round for the ecosystem and our support coalition, with broad participation and backing from individuals and entities focused on driving institutional adoption of Ethereum," expressed the entity when announcing the capital raise.

With the secured capital, the executive team composed of David Walsh, Marius Smith, and Matthew Dawson will take the reins of the project. Walsh will bring his experience after previously leading corporate strategies within the Ethereum Foundation.

The entity explained that "the push for Ethereum as an institutional platform has never been stronger. Institutions now have a dedicated, neutral counterpart aligned with the ecosystem to assess and develop on Ethereum."

The mobilization of capital occurs in a changing context for the leadership of the Ethereum ecosystem. On June 19, the Ethereum Foundation lost its executive leadership, prompting the creation of alternative entities.

In that same line of reorganization, as reported by CriptoNoticias, former researchers and developers from the Ethereum Foundation (EF) launched Ethlabs on June 22, 2026, a non-profit organization with the stated goal of making Ethereum the settlement layer of the global economy.

Thanks to these resources, the Ethereum Institutional initiative plans in the short term to "accelerate direct collaboration with banks, asset managers, custodians, market infrastructures, fintech companies, and sovereign institutions evaluating Ethereum."

Additionally, the capital will finance plans to "promote concrete workstreams around tokenization, stablecoins, collateral, market infrastructure, and on-chain settlement on Ethereum and its L2 layers."

Furthermore, the organization projects to "expand key focus areas: institutional education, market intelligence, ETH and ecosystem marketing, industry discovery and requirements, and high-impact institutional meetings."
