Revolut has completed the first secure payment initiated by artificial intelligence in France, in collaboration with Visa. This test aims to explore how this type of transaction functions in real-world purchasing situations while preserving customer consent and issuer controls. An AI agent, with the customer's permission, managed the steps of the purchase up to the payment. During the exercise, the Visa test agent initiated a real transaction with the merchant Cleverbridge, using the Visa Payment Passkey solution for authentication. Revolut views this step as significant for the future of AI-powered commerce, aiming to simplify everyday financial experiences while keeping the customer at the center of validation. The transaction relies on Visa's existing payment infrastructure, including card security and real-time fraud monitoring. This test comes at a time when 51% of the French population uses AI tools for shopping. Founded in 2015, Revolut has reached a valuation of $115 billion and recently obtained a French banking license. This first AI payment remains an experiment, providing a glimpse into the future of online shopping.
