South Korean memory chip manufacturer SK Hynix Inc. plans to allocate at least 45 trillion won (approximately $31 billion) for capital investments in 2026, which is a 50% increase compared to the previous year and a record figure for the company. In the second quarter of 2026, SK Hynix's net profit surged by 1242% due to one-time investment income, while operating profit rose by 557%. However, both operating profit and revenue fell short of analysts' forecasts due to a weaker product mix. SK Hynix shares in Seoul dropped by 19%, reflecting inflated market expectations from the AI sector and concerns over excessive data center construction. The company's management assures that high demand will outstrip supply until 2030. SK Hynix is preparing for mass shipments of high-bandwidth memory for Nvidia Corp. in 2027. Additionally, the parent group SK Group has signed a partnership agreement with Nvidia worth over $500 billion.
