SMBC Nikko Securities Partners with Uniswap to Develop DeFi Gateway

SMBC Nikko Securities announced on October 2 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Nethermind, Uniswap Labs, Nyx Foundation, and Coinbase Technologies to develop a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform called "DeFi Gateway" aimed at Japanese investors. The project will develop a liquidity provision protocol and proprietary liquidity pool in compliance with Japanese laws and regulations, with plans to complete it by mid-2027. The collaboration includes: first, creating a verifiable and reproducible AI "agent vault" and user interface; second, utilizing the Hooks feature of Uniswap v4 to construct a compliant liquidity pool public framework, incorporating anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing mechanisms; third, developing asset management strategies covering stablecoins and real-world assets. The project is led by SMBC Nikko Securities and Nethermind, with the former responsible for communication with regulatory authorities, compliance, risk modeling, and portfolio management, while the latter handles technical design and development, including AI strategy, smart contract security, and automated market-making strategies.
