S&P Global Warns That Tech Giants' AI Infrastructure Debt May Exceed Disclosed Levels

By: www.reuters.com|10/21/2026 07:58:43

S&P Global has warned that the actual debts and contingent liabilities related to AI infrastructure for six major tech companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, Oracle, Meta, and SpaceX, may be higher than what is reflected in public data. S&P expects that these six companies will spend over $700 billion on capital expenditures for data centers and other AI projects between 2025 and 2030, and will maintain negative free cash flow at least until next year. The rating agency has not broadly downgraded credit ratings but believes the biggest risk lies in the potential failure to realize expected profits after the massive investments are completed.
