The U.S. government will outline its actions to combat foreign cryptocurrency investment fraud networks at an event at the White House. Complaints registered with the FBI increased by about 17% in 2025, with losses related to cryptocurrency exceeding $11 billion. U.S. officials will discuss the seizure of fake investment websites and efforts to combat online identity theft schemes at this event. These websites encourage victims to transfer money to fictitious investments. The U.S. Department of Justice announced in April that it had blocked over $701 million in cryptocurrency related to international fraud operations and shut down more than 500 fake investment websites. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center received over one million complaints in 2025, an increase from 859,532 complaints the previous year. Of these, 181,565 complaints were related to cryptocurrencies, and investment fraud accounted for nearly half of the reported losses in cybercrime. Trump's executive order in March mandated federal agencies to identify transnational fraud networks and coordinate investigations.
