US Becomes Bitcoin Importer in 2026
According to a report by blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis, the US has risen to become a net importer of Bitcoin for the first time since 2022 in 2026. While individual investors executed Bitcoin outflows, large investors and institutions made net inflow transactions. Notably, a net inflow of 53,200 BTC was recorded into the US, particularly with transfers exceeding $10 million. In transactions below $10,000, Bitcoin outflows were prominent. With the start of trading for spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US in January 2024, the country's share in global Bitcoin activities increased in each reporting period. The interest of institutional investors in Bitcoin has become a significant factor strengthening the US's position in the cryptocurrency market. However, the US cryptocurrency economy declined to $2.78 trillion during the 12-month period ending July 1, 2026, representing a 2.2% decrease compared to the previous period. The total cryptocurrency economy of the US and Canada was recorded at approximately $3.02 trillion.
