The US military has conducted airstrikes on Iranian targets for the 11th consecutive night to weaken Iran's threat to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. US Secretary of State Rubio stated that Iran has not fulfilled its commitments regarding the Strait of Hormuz. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the operation targeted Iran's military operations centers, drone storage facilities, and logistical infrastructure. Rubio, speaking at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, emphasized that the US remains committed to resolving issues through diplomatic means, but Iran has not engaged seriously in negotiations. The core disagreement between the two sides lies in Iran's demand for control over shipping management in the Strait of Hormuz, which the US believes is inconsistent with international law. Rubio warned that allowing one country to control international waterways and impose tolls would set a dangerous precedent. The US and Iran signed a temporary memorandum of understanding on June 17, agreeing to suspend military actions and establish a 60-day window for negotiating a long-term agreement, but there are differing interpretations regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz. Rubio stated that the current military actions are a consequence of Iran's failure to fulfill its commitments, and the US will continue to protect its own and its allies' interests, ensuring freedom of navigation in vital global energy transport routes.
