US Senate Approves Bill on Sanctions Against Buyers of Russian Oil

In the United States, senators have reached an agreement on a bill that will grant President Donald Trump the authority to impose restrictions on buyers of Russian energy resources and Iran. The bill includes a tariff of up to 500% on imports of Russian goods and an additional 100% tariff for the largest buyers of Russian energy resources. These new tariff powers will be in effect for five years. The approval of the document could complicate trade relations between the US and China and India, the main importers of Russian oil. Some Democrats oppose the initiative due to concerns about broad protectionist tariffs. The bill also extends the Iran Sanctions Act until 2031. The consideration of the bill is taking place against the backdrop of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington. The Senate plans to vote on it this week, while the House of Representatives will consider it after the August recess in September.
