Vitalik Buterin Proposes Adversarial Governance Mechanisms for AI Safety
Vitalik Buterin stated that the theoretical design of adversarial governance mechanisms could play a significant role in AI safety. Both AI and traditional governance face similar issues: weaker agents need to obtain ideal outcomes from stronger agents. In traditional governance, the agents are static algorithms, while the proxies are humans; in AI safety, the agents are humans and weaker LLMs, while the proxies are stronger LLMs. Limiting the degree of collusion among proxies can improve system outcomes, and this conclusion is also applicable to AI safety. Future constraints on AI may resemble the establishment of a system that includes rules, permissions, adjudication, and record-keeping mechanisms, rather than merely setting up technical "sandboxes."
