Wall Street Analysts Recommend Buying Crypto-Linked Stocks After Binance Hack
Wall Street analysts view the recent $6.3 billion hack of Binance as a buying opportunity for crypto-linked stocks, urging investors to purchase while prices are low. Analysts from Cantor Fitzgerald, TD Cowen, and Compass Point stated that the hack, the largest in crypto history, is unlikely to hinder the market's recovery. Following the incident, Bitcoin's price dipped toward 77000. Cantor's Ramsey El-Assal noted the swift industry response, with stablecoin issuers freezing approximately $3 billion of the stolen funds, including Tether's freeze of over 1.5 billion, Circle's 800 million, and Ripple's 200 million. El-Assal anticipates a recovery in shares of Coinbase, Robinhood, and Strategy as panic subsides. TD Cowen's Lance Vitanza emphasized that the breach highlighted Binance's security weaknesses rather than flaws in Bitcoin's technology, framing the selloff as an opportunity to invest in Bitcoin and related stocks. Compass Point's Ed Engel and Michael Donovan mentioned Binance's sufficient liquidity to cover losses, while noting potential strain on stablecoin supply and opportunities for competitors. They are monitoring the 75000 to 77000 Bitcoin range as a critical level. Analysts argue that stocks like Coinbase and Robinhood provide crypto exposure without custody risks. However, Moody's Cristiano Ventricelli warned of increased cybersecurity risks and potential broader implications depending on loss recovery and market confidence. Binance has allocated 6.34 billion to cover losses and assured users their assets are safe, while investigations by the Secret Service and FBI are underway, linking the hack to North Korea's TraderTraitor group.
