Warsh Criticizes Dot Plot and Emphasizes Supply-Side Inflation
Kevin Warsh, the Chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve, has been analyzed as suggesting that the reduction in communication regarding monetary policy is related to the interpretation of inflation. The Wall Street Journal reported that Warsh has shown a critical stance towards the Fed's dot plot and economic projections. The dot plot indicates the path of interest rates, while the economic projections summarize growth rates, unemployment rates, inflation, and interest rate forecasts. Warsh seeks the causes of rising prices not in unemployment rates but in capital allocation, labor market adjustment capabilities, and the predictability of government policies. He argues that high unemployment is not sufficient to suppress inflation and emphasizes the importance of supply capacity and the policy environment. Reporter Timiraos noted that Warsh's pessimistic growth outlook has been somewhat accurate, explaining that strengthened regulations and policies have negatively impacted economic growth. There are also opinions suggesting that AI could positively influence economic growth. Warsh stated that if signals regarding interest rate forecasts are reduced and supply-side inflation interpretations are emphasized, market participants may interpret inflation, employment, and productivity indicators more directly.
