Zhao Changpeng: Cryptocurrency Adoption Rate to Reach 20% in 5 to 10 Years

Binance founder Zhao Changpeng stated during a speech at the Oxford Union that the adoption of cryptocurrency is slow but irreversible. He predicts that it may take 5 to 10 years for the adoption rate to reach 20%, and 60% to 80% may take another 10 to 20 years, while the final 20% could take even longer. He pointed out that initial skepticism is prevalent, but once it surpasses 20%, the pace will accelerate, and after exceeding 80%, it will slow down again. Zhao mentioned that in the past two years, many governments have changed their attitudes towards cryptocurrency, with the U.S. becoming more crypto-friendly and other countries following suit. However, the financial system upgrades are slow, and large institutions exhibit inertia, leading to significant friction in banks directly accessing blockchain. Currently, there is still insufficient innovation in retail payment and daily use cases, with many projects just starting and needing one to two years to develop, while institutional adoption of ETFs, tokenized stocks, and stablecoins is growing. He remains optimistic about institutional adoption and is willing to fund developers.
