Segundo o Bitcoin News, o congressista americano Nick Begich apresentou a "Lei de Modernização da Reserva dos EUA", que já conta com 16 co-patrocinadores originais. O projeto estabelecerá uma reserva estratégica de Bitcoin, integrará ativos digitais mantidos pelo governo federal e os fixará como ativos de reserva de longo prazo por pelo menos 20 anos.
O projeto também explora estratégias de aquisição de Bitcoin neutras em termos orçamentários, ao mesmo tempo em que protege as reservas contra futuros esforços de liquidação por parte do governo e do congresso. A mídia comentou que a reserva estratégica de Bitcoin estabelecida por Trump por meio de uma ordem executiva será formalmente consagrada em lei pela "Lei de Modernização da Reserva dos EUA".
