Spot Trading for Beginners: From Deposit and Order to Holding
Spot trading exchanges one asset directly for another, so a completed purchase normally leaves the buyer holding the token rather than a leveraged contract position. Before a first order, learn the pair, limit and market orders, available balance, fees, and execution status; submitting an order is not the same as confirming that it filled.
Three checks before a spot order
- Trading pair: BTC/USDT means BTC is quoted in USDT. The bought asset and the asset used for payment are different, and choosing the wrong pair can produce a result far from the original plan.
- Order type: a limit order places your chosen condition into the order book, while a market order accepts available opposing quotes. A market order prioritizes execution; a limit order prioritizes price control. Either can be partially filled or remain unfilled.
- Execution status: after sending the order, check filled, partially filled, open, or cancelled status. The balance changes according to the actual result, not merely because a confirmation button appeared.
From deposit to holding
First check the current asset, network, address, and any Memo or Tag shown on the deposit screen. A small test can reduce an address or network mistake when it is practical, but it cannot remove the irreversible nature of many blockchain transfers. After the balance arrives, open the spot page, select the pair, inspect the order book and available balance, and then enter the order.
WEEX’s Taiwan spot-trading guide showed its expected help title on September 17, 2026. It is a useful feature entry, while the trading page remains authoritative for current price, minimum size, fee, balance, and availability. WEEX’s fee page showed a spot-fee tab on the same date. Fees can depend on the account and product rules, so do not copy a percentage from an older article into today’s order.
Limit order or market order?
Use a limit order when you want to control the highest purchase price or lowest sale price, while accepting that the market may never reach your condition. Consider a market order when immediate execution matters more, but remember that a thin book can fill separate portions at different prices. Read the depth and spread before submitting, and inspect the estimated quantity shown in the order panel.
Spot trading does not create a leveraged liquidation position, but it is not risk-free. The token can fall in value, the issuer or network can face an issue, market liquidity can disappear, and exchange custody or account security can affect access. Moving a token to self-custody removes exchange custody from that step but makes private-key backup and network operation your responsibility.

After the order fills
- Check the order history for the actual average price, filled quantity, and fee.
- Confirm the asset appears in the correct spot balance rather than remaining open or in transfer.
- If you withdraw, re-check the destination address, network, and Memo or Tag, then read WEEX’s deposit and withdrawal guide.
- Never copy an address from an unofficial private message. Use the official verification page if a support contact looks suspicious.
- Keep a record of the order and transfer details for your own account review; do not assume a visible balance means a transfer has settled.
Keep ownership and execution separate
A completed spot purchase changes the asset balance, but it does not guarantee that the asset is ready for an immediate withdrawal. Settlement, account review, network maintenance, minimum amount, and a temporary restriction can affect the next step. Check the balance and withdrawal screen after the trade instead of relying on an alert, a screenshot, or a remembered rule.
Ownership also changes the questions you should ask. On an exchange, review account security, withdrawal controls, and the service’s current fee. In self-custody, review the seed phrase, backup location, chain, and destination address. Never publish recovery words or send them to a support contact. A spot order is only one step in a longer custody process.
Keep a simple order record
Write down the pair, order type, intended amount, and reason before sending. After execution, compare that plan with the filled quantity, average price, and fee in order history. This habit makes it easier to spot a wrong pair or partial fill before you move the balance. It also keeps a market quote from being mistaken for the price at which your own order executed.
For any later transfer, use the current withdrawal screen rather than a saved address. Check the destination network and whether the receiving service requires a Memo or Tag, then confirm the transfer status from the account page. A completed trade and a completed blockchain transfer are separate events.
Common questions
Will a limit order always fill?
No. The market must reach the condition and have enough opposing volume. Otherwise the order can stay open, fill only in part, or be cancelled.
Is a market order exactly the price I see?
Not necessarily. The screen changes continuously and the order matches available opposing orders. A larger order or thinner depth can produce an average price different from the displayed quote.
Can I withdraw immediately after buying?
That depends on account status, settled balance, network, minimum withdrawal conditions, and any review requirement shown at that time. Confirm that the trade is complete and read the live withdrawal page.
