$2 Billion Crypto Lawsuit Filed Against Trump

A shareholder of the publicly traded cryptocurrency company Circle, J. Benjamin Greenberg, has filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump and World Liberty Financial in a federal court in Washington. The lawsuit alleges that Trump and his family violated the U.S. Constitution by profiting from foreign sources through the cryptocurrency company. At the center of the case are two major transactions linked to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the National Security Advisor of the UAE. The first transaction occurred before Trump took office in January 2025, where a company backed by Tahnoon purchased a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial for $500 million. The second transaction involves Abu Dhabi-based MGX's $2 billion investment in the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. The plaintiff claims that this transaction aimed to increase the value of Trump's cryptocurrency assets. The White House and World Liberty Financial have denied the allegations. Circle stated that it has no direct involvement in the lawsuit. Greenberg is asking the court to determine that Trump's earnings are unconstitutional. An organization linked to the Trump family holds approximately 38% of World Liberty Financial.
