21% Chance of Russian Entry into Sloviansk, Contradicting Claims of Military Progress

By: www.tokenpost.kr|2026/09/06 17:48:07

The prediction market Polymarket reflected a 21% chance of Russia entering Sloviansk as of September 6. Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed on September 1 that Russia was gaining the upper hand on the Ukrainian front, stating that 270 square kilometers had been secured in the Donetsk region. However, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) estimated on September 2 that the area occupied by Russian forces in August was approximately 90.35 square kilometers. ISW assessed that the pace of Russia's advance showed a significant difference compared to the projected 505.55 square kilometers by August 2025. In the Polymarket market for 'Which city will Russia enter by December 31?', the price for Sloviansk 'Yes' was set at 21%, with a trading volume of $75,894. The prices for other locations were Dobropillia at 89%, Druzhkivka at 51%, and Kramatorsk at 29%. This price does not serve as evidence of battlefield outcomes but reflects the probability judgments of participants. War-related prediction markets have raised ethical concerns, and there have been reports of preparations for insider trading charges by U.S. federal authorities. ISW noted in its assessment on September 4 that while Russian forces continued their offensive towards Sloviansk, there was no significant advance.

In crypto, bitcoin held near $80,000 as spot ETF inflows remained supportive, signaling that institutional risk appetite has not fully faded.
