$2.2 billion gains in 2025 for Donald Trump: Senator calls for anti-corruption office

Money has no smell. The figure has been known since late June, but it is yesterday's political response that brings it back into the spotlight. On July 30, Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, supported by his colleague Alex Padilla, unveiled a bill tailored for one man: Donald Trump, whose 2025 financial disclosure shows over $2 billion in personal income, primarily from tokens he helped launch.

The disclosure itself details gains that far exceed anything an American president has ever revealed, shining a light on his direct involvement in the crypto ecosystem. But it is Schumer's text, a month later, that turns this figure into hot news.

Key points of this article:

  • Chuck Schumer proposed a law in response to Donald Trump's extraordinary income related to cryptocurrencies.
  • Trump's financial disclosure revealed over $2.2 billion in income for 2025, a significant portion of which comes from digital tokens.

According to the Washington Post, Trump's financial disclosure reports over $2.2 billion in income for 2025, with more than $1.4 billion coming directly from cryptocurrencies, digital tokens, and related partnerships.

A substantial portion comes from World Liberty Financial, the crypto project co-founded by the Trump family, which reportedly earned him over $580 million in the past year alone.

Additionally, sales made by World Liberty Financial itself are estimated at over $594 million. The Trump family currently controls 60% of the financial shares of the project and holds a claim on 75% of the net revenue from the sale of its tokens.

This arrangement effectively transforms the presidency into a direct accelerator of personal wealth, unprecedented in American political history.

The political response did not take long, even if it comes a month after the disclosure itself: it is this delay, and especially the date of the text, July 30, that explains why the issue is back in the spotlight. Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, along with his colleague Alex Padilla, introduced the Anti-Corruption Bureau Creation Act, a bill that would create the first independent federal office entirely dedicated to tracking corruption within the executive branch.

The text explicitly cites the over $2 billion in income reported by Trump in 2025, including $1.4 billion related to crypto, as well as a family crypto fund worth over a billion dollars linked to foreign governments.

According to the official statement from the Senate Democratic leader's office, this new bureau would simply replace the Office of Government Ethics, the Federal Election Commission, and the Office of Special Counsel, with the mission of recovering sums captured by a president or his entourage through corruption.

An ambitious project, but one that currently has no real chance of advancing in a Senate where Republicans control the legislative agenda.

This text will change nothing in the short term: Trump has done nothing illegal under current law, and he has publicly claimed as much. This is precisely the problem Schumer points out, a legal framework that never anticipated a president could so thoroughly mix public office with lucrative personal crypto activity.

This episode illustrates a fundamental tension that the crypto ecosystem will continue to pay for politically: the closer the ties between the executive power and personal tokens, the more regulation of the entire sector risks being perceived, rightly or wrongly, as being guided by private interests rather than the public good.
