Aave Reviews sGHO Cross-Chain Expansion Proposal

Aave is reviewing a governance proposal to expand its stablecoin sGHO, which offers a fixed annual interest rate of 4.25%, to Layer 2 and EVM-compatible networks. The proposal was registered on June 24, authored by TokenLogic. The core of the proposal is to establish a single 'source of truth' by setting the sGHO vault on the Ethereum (ETH) mainnet. Layer 2 and EVM networks will handle deposit and withdrawal requests, while cross-chain messaging will be managed by Chainlink (LINK)'s CCIP. The expansion targets include Avalanche (AVAX), but immediate deployment is uncertain as forum discussions and on-chain voting are still pending. sGHO was launched on April 3, replacing the existing stkGHO, and follows the ERC-4626 vault standard. The interest rate is designed to be 50 basis points higher than the Sky Savings Rate, set at an annual 4.25%, and can be withdrawn without lock-up or slashing risks. Aave aims to enhance the cross-chain accessibility of sGHO for decentralized finance (DeFi) liquidity distribution, with users spread across multiple networks. However, cross-chain bridges are pointed out as vulnerable points in DeFi security. Aave governance has adopted CCIP as the standard for sGHO transfers, and the existing GHO can be moved to the Avalanche C-Chain through CCIP-based facilitators. The market capitalization of GHO is approximately $648 million, indicating a significant size difference compared to existing stablecoins. This proposal reflects Aave's trend towards expanding GHO-centric stablecoin infrastructure.
