AI Model Release Cycle Between China and the U.S. Shortened to 44 Days
The average release cycle for new artificial intelligence models in China and the U.S. has been shortened to 44 days since April 2026, approximately one-third of the previous duration. Statistics show that five U.S. companies, including Anthropic and OpenAI, and four Chinese companies, including Alibaba Group and Moonlight, had an average interval of 125 days from January 2023 to March 2026, which was reduced to 44 days from April to September 2026. By September, OpenAI and Anthropic successively released their latest models. Meta has been upgrading Muse Spark monthly since July, while Google launched an updated version of Gemini in three weeks on September 2. Grok released new models for three consecutive months until August. In China, DeepSeek has been updating monthly since July, and after August, Alibaba and Z.AI, which launched the GLM series, also released new models. On September 17, Anthropic announced that as of August, 26% of its development work was dominated by AI, with over 90% involving AI participation. In February this year, the proportion of AI dominance was nearly zero. For OpenAI, in August, AI agents operated 3.1 times longer than human researchers, with average daily usage of about $600 for ordinary researchers, and the top 10% exceeding $7,000; the amount of code written through programming in August reached seven times the average level of 2025.

On September 10, markets digested Apple’s product event and the oil breakout. Apple (AAPL) launched its first foldable iPhone Duo at $1,999, while the iPhone 18 Pro price rose by $100 to start at $1,199. The stock closed down about 0.3% at $315.34 on September 9 ET. Brent crude moved back above $100, all three major U.S. indexes closed lower, and energy was the only sector to post a gain of about 1.1%. Bitcoin remained capped by renewed hike pricing. Investors are now waiting for Adobe (ADBE) and Oracle (ORCL) earnings after the close on September 10 ET.
