AI Slowdown Push Weighs on Chip Stocks; FOMC in Focus | WEEX TradFi Daily Brief (September 15, 2026)

By: WEEX|2026/09/15 02:15:00

Opening Summary

  1. Anthropic, OpenAI, and others called for slower frontier-model training, sending the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index down about 5%–5.9% and NVIDIA down about 3%.
  2. The 10-year yield broke above 5% intraday, lifting hike pricing and pressuring long-duration tech.
  3. Bitcoin held above $77,000, while Robinhood-chain tokens and the ZK/privacy complex led crypto.
  4. The rate decision is due at 14:00 ET on September 16, while Trip.com reports after the close today.

1、Crypto Market Highlights

1)Bitcoin Holds $77,000 as Hike Pricing and ETF Outflows Cap Upside
Bitcoin traded between $77,600 and $78,200, peaking near $79,400 before fading, while Ethereum held around $2,510–$2,520. Spot bitcoin ETFs recorded about $463 million of net outflows over the four sessions through September 14, cooling the roughly $3.34 billion of inflows seen from August 19 to September 4. Markets are waiting for the September 16 decision, and leveraged books remain highly sensitive to the rate path.
Watchlist: BTC, ETH
Spot: BTC / ETH
Futures: BTC / ETH

2)Robinhood Sector Leads; BONER, COMMMX, PONS and AIINUE Stand Out
Robinhood-ecosystem tokens attracted fresh inflows, with BONER, COMMMX, PONS, and AIINUE among the leaders. COMMMX at one point rose about 16.7% over 24 hours. Crypto KOL Bonk Guy said PONS may break out of its triangle and could print new highs: annualized fees are about $829 million, annualized revenue about $159 million, and market cap about $430 million, while the circulating market-cap case this cycle could extend toward $5 billion versus PUMP. Narrative strength plus buyback-and-burn expectations lifted valuation elasticity.
Watchlist: PONS, COMMMX, BONER, AIINUE
Spot: PONS / COMMMX / BONER / AIINUE
Futures: PONS

3)ZK and Privacy Strengthen Again; ZEC, NIGHT, STRK and CYS Lead
Zero-knowledge and privacy assets continued to attract both defensive and narrative capital. ZEC held above $1,050, and a move through the $1,200–$1,280 zone could open a fresh price-discovery phase, while NIGHT, STRK, and CYS advanced in tandem. Regulatory uncertainty and sideways trading in majors kept flows rotating into ZK names with stronger technical narratives and lower correlation.
Watchlist: ZEC, NIGHT, STRK, CYS
Spot: ZEC / NIGHT / STRK / CYS
Futures: ZEC / NIGHT / STRK / CYS

2、Market Highlights

1)AI Safety Push Intensifies; Chip and Compute Stocks Sell Off
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for the industry to slow frontier-model progress and to allow firms to discuss safety standards without triggering antitrust constraints. The push has backing from OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Tesla’s Elon Musk, and Microsoft’s Satya Nadella. Fears of slower AI development, combined with firmer hike odds, drove a broad equity decline, with the semiconductor index down nearly 6%. The next checkpoints are the Fed decision and whether leading cloud vendors revise spending guidance.
Watchlist: NVDA, AMD, MU, SOXX
Spot: NVDA / AMD / MU / SOXX
Futures: NVDA / AMD / MU / SOXX

2)10-Year Yield Breaks Above 5% Intraday
The 10-year yield briefly cleared 5% on September 14, the first time since 2023. Firmer hike pricing compressed long-duration tech valuations and, combined with the AI-slowdown narrative, amplified selling pressure. Investors will watch the September 16 dot plot for the year-end path.
Watchlist: TLT, IEFA, SPY
Spot: TLT / IEFA / SPY
Futures: IEFA / SPY

3)Software and Cybersecurity Recover Part of the Decline
After the chip selloff, software and cybersecurity saw inflows that helped the major indexes rebound from session lows. The safety narrative is a short-term tailwind for defensive software, but it does not fully offset the beta shock to compute hardware.
Watchlist: MSFT, PANW, FTNT
Spot: MSFT / PANW / FTNT
Futures: MSFT / PANW / FTNT

3、Today’s Preview

1)FOMC Meeting and Rate Decision
The Fed meets on September 15–16, with the decision due at 14:00 ET on September 16. Investors will focus on the size of any hike, the dot plot, the chair’s press conference, and retail sales as a check on consumer resilience.
Watchlist: BTC, ETH, SPY, QQQ
Spot: BTC / ETH / SPY / QQQ
Futures: BTC / ETH / SPY / QQQ

2)Trip.com (TCOM) After-Hours Earnings
Market expectations center on revenue of about $2.29 billion, while adjusted EPS is generally expected in a $0.87–$0.98 range. Investors will watch cross-border air and hotel commissions, advertising and value-added-service growth, and management’s guidance on peak-season travel and FX.
