Amazon Completes $50 Billion Investment in OpenAI

Amazon disclosed in its 10-Q quarterly report that it has completed a total investment of $50 billion in OpenAI. In the first quarter of this year, Amazon invested $15 billion in OpenAI's Series C preferred shares and committed to an additional purchase of $35 billion. In the second quarter, the company invested $13.7 billion to purchase OpenAI Series C preferred shares. After the reporting period, Amazon will invest the remaining $21.3 billion of its committed amount in OpenAI's Series C preferred shares. Amazon stated that if OpenAI completes its initial public offering (IPO) or other liquidity events, the issued Series C preferred shares will convert into common stock. The company expects to be subject to customary lock-up periods after the IPO and will be restricted by applicable securities laws.
